Large Rear Extension and internal Alterations
In this project the client required the removal of a significant number of internal walls and an extension to the rear of the property to create 80 m2 of clear internal space.
The need to remove these walls compromised the overall stability and load bearing capacity of some parts of the building. Various internal portal frames were required to both ensure the lateral stability and the safe transfer of loads to the ground.
The main challenges were to transfer lateral and vertical loading safely to the foundations, analysis of the existing footings to the load path alteration and adequate stiffness of the required portal frames.
